I was working for a As/400 dealer that went out of business recently and I am not certified in anything but would like to get my certificatuions. The company also dealt in PC's & Laptops in which I learned how to take them apart and rebuild everyting on them and resale them. Also I learned how to run our network and trouble shoot it too. My boss said I had surpassed him in what I was able to and they were gonna get me certified but the company closed down before they was able to send me anywhere. I worked there for 5 years and familiar with TCP/IP, loading OS & other programs, proxy, networking, hardware and laptoip repair. What certifications would be best for me to get a job because I love learning and working on computers. Any suggestions would be great. Blue

Well, that didn't answer the question...
It would probably be best to start with a vendor-neutral certification. Based on your background you would have very little trouble with the A+ and Network+ certs sponsored by CompTIA ( The will give you some recognized credentials that can't do anything but help in the job search. Beyond that, MCSE is a valuable credential, but under version 4.0 it would have to be completed by Dec 31. After that, MCSE 2000 is the only choice.

Thank you for your suggestions and I will check out that site. Most likely I will not be able to get my MCSE by the 31 but from what I herd it will not really matter anyways because I was told that even if you already have MSCE you will need to take the 2000 one also. Is this true? Also I herd that MS is doing away with the TCP/IP & A+ testing along with a few others. I have been looking over and reading some A+ info but was wondering if I still need to or not now that MS is changing everything w the new MS 2000.
A+ is not a microsoft exam, and so is not affected by anything they do.
All NT 4 exams (which includes TCP/IP exam) are being end of lifed on the 31st. Only the new Windows 200 exams will be valid for the MCSE (that is aprt from the non NT electives).

It's true that Microshaft is retiring the NT 4 MCSE Exams, but those that have the credential before 12/31 will be certified through 12/31/2001. At that time the MCSE 4.0 program dies and we'll all have to become certified under 2000.
