I am setting up an AIX backup using Veritas software. What can or should I exclude on an AIX backup ?

How could anyone possibly tell you what you can exclude for a backup?

Exclude anything that is not critical to you.......... But only you can decide that!

Why make a backup if your not going to back it all up??

Q: "What can or should I exclude on an AIX backup ?"
A: Nothing in rootvg, i.e. back it all up.
The rest is not AIX, it is applicaion stuff and only you / the sys admin can decide.

The one thing you exclude will be the one thing you need to recover. The only reason to exclude is time constraint in which case I'd create a mksysb then do incrementals on files in rootvg.
