Hi

I just installed Norton Ghost 15 on my new Windows 7 computer.
The program installed fine and I have the computer all backed up.

Now I get to the part where I create the Boot Recovery Disk.

I have downloaded the ISO file, but when I try to make the Boot Disk it tells me that I have to either open the file and copy the contents into a folder on my hard drive or copy it to a DVD.

How do I open the file and copy the contents to a folder.

I did this a long time ago and I think I had to download a specific application to do it but I don't remember what it was.

Thanks for the help.

Mike

Or you could just insert a blank CD into your CD writer.

Right click the ISO file
Select - Open with
Select - Windows disk image burner

this is the built in iso burner that comes with windows 7

Hi guys

Thanks for the help.
I didn't know that Windows 7 could do this on it's own.

I did download and install Image Burn did the trick.

Now the problem is that the boot disk crashes my computer to the blue screen of death.

I'm guessing this is because it doesn't contain the correct drivers. I have been through this before.

I ran driver validation and it pretty much says I don't have any of the correct drivers on the disk.

I have posted the Driver Validation report on the Symantec forum and am waiting for suggestions.

For what it is worth here is the report.

Hi again

Ok: I used the Winows 7 utility to create a Recovery Disk, it worked fine only took a few minutes and booted my computer right up.
Now if I only had a way to add Norton Ghost as one of the options when the menu comes up I would be all set.

At the moment I'm using Windows to create an image of my C: Drive.

Hopefully this will work if I ever have to use it and restore my computer to the condition that it is in today.

I will use Ghost to create compressed backup of my file and let Windows handle the recovery.

I don't see any reason that Symantec couldn't create a Restore Disk utility that works as well as the one in Windows, after all, all it has to do is locate the necessary drivers and files and copy them to the disk.

Maybe all they really need to do is come up with a way to add Ghost to a normal Windows 7 System Restore Disk, that doesn't sound like rocket science.

If you could just insert your Windows Recovery Disk select it in Create a Custom Restore Disk in Ghost and it would make you a new Disk with Ghost Recovery added to it.

Anyway I could have saved my money and just used Windows to begin with.

Thanks for the help.

Mike

Hi again.

I finally solved this.

The problem seems to be that somehow I did not have the right ISO file from Norton.

Finally downloaded the ISO from another source and it worked first time.

I don't know how I got the wrong one, there were only two buttons, download Ghost 15 and download ISO file.

Anyway I can move on to something else.

Mike
