Hello
i am trying to allow webcam software to ftp to a apache directory where i have a folder called images for a website, on 2k IIS it worked fine, on linux i have one sticking point.
i have
Redhat 7.3
default apache
default wuftp

i have apache working and able to access all directories of my website with no problem, 1 page pulls up pic.jpg for the /var/ folder..

i created a user called ftpcam, edited the /etc/passwd file to have it point its home folder to the /var/
i can ftp in as ftpcam and login adn i am in the correct folder, but i cant upload a new pic and overwrite the old, permission denied..
i have webmin installed but cant figure where and what to change for permisions..

thxs for any help

You don't need to change the users home directory. If your using ProFTPd, just set the following directives...

DefaultRoot /var/AllowOverwrite On

I'm not sure about WuFTP, if thats what your using, because I don't use it.

Make sure that that user has write permissions on that directory -->

chmod 770 /var/

I would move the users home directory back to /home and just fix your FTP configuration.

thx , i fixed it late last night chmod the images directory, but why would i want to change my ftp back, this is how ISPs setup customer website, each customer has username whichis a guest or reg user, edit their home directory to their website directory, and allow that acoount ftp into their home dir aka webdirectory.. so they can upload their webpage and have it ready for access via apache,

but thanks for the info though
