Hi
I have Networker 7.4.3

My Questen what TCP/IP Ports do i need?

From Networker Client to Networker Storage Node?
7937 and 7938?

From Networker Client to Networker Server?
7937 and 7938?

From Networker Storage Node to Networker Server?
7937-9936

Are this ports corect?

Thanks for your help
Stephan

Since NW 7.3.0:
- the NW client SW (nsrexecd) needs 4 ports
- the NW storage node needs 1 port per nsrmmd (per device)
plus 1 temporary one for a 'helper' (if the save set continues on another media)
+1 port for each nslcpd process
- the NW server needs:
nsrd 1
nsrmmdbd 1
nsrindexd 1
nsrjobd 2
nsrmmgd 1

Do not forget:
- these values are 'function-specific'. For a SN and the server you must add the ports appropriately.
- Ports 7937 and 7938 are fixed - you can not move them!

You will find procedures how to specify the port ranges in Appendic B of the current NW Admin Guide.

Hi 605

Thanks for your help.

1 Question to make it clear.

A Client needs 4 Ports 7937 and 7938 Pus 2 free Chosen.
A Storage Node with 4 LTO3 Drives need 12 Port (4 nsrexecd 2x4 for the Drives) 7937 and 7938 Plus 8 free chosen.
A Server with 8 LTO3 and 4 Librarys need 24 Ports.

I configure the Ports over the Console (Configuration>Local Host> right click > Configure Port Ranges.
I can do that with the networker server but if i couse a client or Dedicated Storage node then i got this message "Unabele to connect to Server: Failed to contact using UDP Ping" what is wrong?

Stephan

1 more question

If i have 10 Storage Node. I need 12 Ports for a Storage Node (see example above)
Can i use the same 12 Ports for alle 10 Storage Node (only 12 Ports are open at the Firewall?

Stephan

The best way to set the porst on clients and SN is :
nsrports -S 7937-7949 in your 12 Port example.

Yes you can use the same ports for all Storagenodes.

@Shuegli:

Your calculation for the server is wrong. You will need:
- 4 ports for nsrexecd
- 16 ports for (2x8) for the devices
- 4 ports 1 for each nsrlcpd
- 1 port for nsrmmgd
- 1 port for nsrd
- 1 port for nsrmmdbd
- 1 port for nsrindexd
- 2 ports for nsrjobd
That makes 30 service ports.
---------------------------
With respect to your problem "Unable to connect to server: Failed to contact using UDP ping." you will find the following hit in the 7.4 Release Notes:

Workaround
1. Open the NetWorker Management Console window and select Setup> Setup System Options.
2. Ensure that RPC ping using UDP when connecting to NetWorker is unchecked.
----------------------------
Yes, you can use the same ports for all SNs.
