I have two Dell 120T tape drives which is a 7 tape library DLT7000 drives. I am using BE v8.5. I do not understand how to keep track of how to assign a specific tape to a specific backup job. I would like to be able to do an offsite rotation, but since I don't know what media is being used between both drives and tape libraries I can't tell what is safe to take offsite. I think I need to make each tape a media set and then assign it to the backup. I can't tell which tape to put in the media set even. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike, I do not have an Autoloader attached to my BE8.5 backup. but I do have the Backup Exec online help installed. and if you do, you can look under autoloaders and they have some good information about configuring the autoloader slots, you can even partition the slots . hope this helps you.

What you need to do is to create a new drive pool and select the DELL drives then initialize the drives. They will show up individualy under devices. Then when you create a new job you will be able to drop down and see the individual slots. You dont want to create any other Media Sets.
