I saw <xmp> was deprecated - i tried using <pre> but the html was not output as text containing html tags but was formatted - any help much appreciated.
 
Try using <pre> in conjunction with replacing &quot;<&quot; with &quot;&lt;&quot; and &quot;>&quot; with &quot;&gt;&quot; for html tag characters that you want displayed literally.
