/etc/rc.d/init.d/sendmail start
/etc/rc.d/init.d/sendmail stop

This command starts and stops sendmail. However what starts sendmail during in the boot process? I am looking for which switches are thrown to start sendmail. I am installing a virus software on my server and the support claims that I should be starting sendmail with the -bs switch. I would like to see how it arts now first.

I have purused throught the
/etc/rc file and found numberous references to sendmail.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Sendmail is started with a shell script /etc/init.d/sendmail. There may be a copy or symlink in /etc/rc.d/init.d that is read at boot up. Not 100% sure on this path :)

HAve a look at the sendmail startup script in /etc/rc2.d or /etc/rc3.d startup run control script.. It will specify which option is sendmail started with..

To my knowledge, sendmail starts with -bd and -q15 switches by default
