I work in a small software company. I need to spec out the requirements for a small server for WIN2k - this would be primarily for Oracle batch development and testing with some online transactions, but no intranet or internet. We are an NT shop now with no plans that I know of to convert to Win2k in the next 12 months, but we do have a few workstations with Win2k Professional on.

We would load Oracle 817 on it this small server.

I am thinking 750mz speed, 20-30GB storage, 500MB memory. Are two processors needed?

On one Intel machine we have with 350MB 500MZ processor the machine slowed down significantly when an install of 817 Oracle was added after Oracle 816 was already on the machine. Neither Oracle was actually being used - just the processes were turned on with the listener and a single unused database each.

We have a QC function that was using the machine for yet another purpose and the second install of Oracle just about killed the machine response time. I shut down all the Oracle services because we are not using Oracle on that machine temporarily and response time jumped right back.

Could someone please tell me if these specs are in the right ballpark.
