Hi

We are considering putting all IP phones running over the WAN to a system at a remote site. We are a Bank. What do you do about providing phone calls in and out in the case of a WAN or power outage?

We currently have IPOffice 406V2s in 27 branches, we want to go to a VOIP only solution.

Thanks for your time.

Ashley

If outage is a big problem then put in an IP500 in each location.
Give each location a trunk for outcalling when the SCN trunk to the main site is down.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

+1 for peters answer.

A Maintenance contract is essential, not a Luxury.
Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

Or an IP1000 at HQ with IP500s as branch modules.

I'd really wonder if IP Office is the right solution. Resilience (ok at a price) is substantially better if you move to Aura.

It also depends on what you are trying to protect against (I mean what sort of failure)

Take Care

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

I still think server edition is the way forward.

Capabilities

Expanded scale/capacity With a Linux server – Server Edition means seamless growth, … up from 384 users to 1000 per site; and 40 voice messaging ports to 100 all using the same Linux Server

Centralized Management – Simple administration is the cornerstone of Server Edition. From the one intuitive interface, the System Administrator has one view of all users on a single site or across up to 32 locations. Using system status can, at a glance, let the Administrator know of any potential issues that could affect system performance such as over utilized trunk lines, voice ports, and bandwidth utilization

Centralized Licensing – Server Edition holds all common licenses centrally, making it cost effective to purchase discounted license packs and easy for a System Administrator to assign user solutions to employees anywhere within the network

Resilience built-in – midsize businesses demand reliability, Server Edition delivers. Within a multi-site network where Server Edition is deployed across remote locations, in the unlikely event of a system outage, the IP Phones on that location simply re-register to an alternate location. Voice messaging is also critical to many businesses; Server Edition backs-up messages and greetings to an alternate Linux server.

Survivability will be expensive (way more then IPO)
IP1000 serve redition or not, it will be much cheaper.
How often is a good dedicated line down these days?

Thanks for the input.

You are right lines are rarely down, but the management is very concerned about disaster recovery etc.

Sounds like we have to stay with IPO in each branch and at least one pots line for emergency use.

I don't really comprehend what server edition gives us, we have a full implementation of 406V2s running V5 now, 25 sites with systems now.

Thanks

In this case nothing because then you have to replace them all with new IP500V2's
But when you want to go IP then you are stuck to the 16xx serie phones.
The 96XX range does not work on the 406.
