I am very familiar with Crystal Reports and Crystal Enterprise server, but I am a complete newbie when it comes to Cognos.

My company has several Cognos reports that they would like me to make available on our intranet (written in ASP). What software I need to do this? Do I need to purchase and install Impromptu, or can I somehow make the reports available programatically using Cognos Web Services?

There are 3 main methods of Web reporting:
Powerplay Web - uses Powerplay Enterprise Server to post cubes and cube reports to the Upfront Portal.
Impromptu Web Reports - posts Impromptu pdf reports to Upfront
Cognos Query - html cutdown version of Impromptu.

Upfront is the Cognos Web portal that includes security and 'newsboxes'that organise reports and links.A company webpage can also be used.

A simple method can be creating client side cube reports and Impromptu reports and saving them as PDF then making them available through the company intranet via Virtual directories.

Thanks so much for the info.

Are the Impromptu PDF reports dynamic or static, eg. can users refresh the report data via the web or would the report have to be scheduled to run and re-export to PDF?

Would we "convert" our existing Cognos reports into Impromptu reports via the Impromptu software? Then we post them to Upfront?
