My Quantum Fireball lct 10.2 has a fried Philips chip. I'm trying to find one on Ebay or similar so I can swap the controller card to retrieve data - does it have to be exatly the same, or would a different size (say 15) do the same job?

Sometimes they will, sometimes they won't. And sometimes the E/C level bites you in the butt even if you have the exact same drive.

Doesn't sound too good! Can you explain what the E/C level is? (New family motto: Let not the sun go down without a full back-up)

Sometimes waiting for the sun to go down is too late.

Engineering change. Mid production changes that possibly change timings sufficiently that the different boards have problems recovering.
