Hi, What drivers should I use? pcl5 or pcl 6 drivers for hp5500c?
Its a local attached laser printer for (coreldraw and photoshop light weight design files), also have few queues from other network users for printing color jobs...

What drivers do you recommend me for those users?
pcl5 or pcl6?

thanks in advance

PCL 6 drivers will probably be faster but if you get any problems like 'PCLXL' errors or garbage characters then use PCL 5.

IMHO PCL 5 drivers may be slightly slower but are more stable.

After having to un-install PCL 6 and install PCL 5 drivers across a major-sized site I've found that if you do anything with Citrix then only use PCL 5.

Hope this helps...

Just a note, if you are using PDF files you will need the Postscript driver.

Hmmm... I'm really sorry but I beg to differ.

I manage just over 1200 PC's, every single one of them using PDF files on almost a daily basis.

The PC's use a mixture of software e.g. Adobe Acrobat 5, 6 and 7; Adobe Acrobat Reader 6.0.4 and 7.0.7; StarOffice 7 and Corel WordPerfect... all of which use or create or print PDF files).

Not a single one of the PC's has PostScript drivers installed nor has any one of them ever had any need to.

Hope this info helps...

I agree, you don't need Postscript to print PDFs.

IMHO, the 5500 is a POS. I get different problems with PCL6 than I do with PCL5, but they both have problems. HP has replaced it with the 5550, which seems pretty solid.
