Hi all!

I've been coding VB for a few years, and in order to keep current, I'm going to try to learn ASP. I've checked and printed out some tutorials, but have run into a roadblock of sorts.

When I create a new Visual Interdev project, the first screen asks me for a server and mode. I've tried various things, (IP address to FTP address. What do I need to enter in there? Is there something I can do to just save the program onto my own computer (I'm running Windows 2000), then use FTP to upload the files?

Please advise.

Thanks in advance -

jason

Except I can't use that. It gives me an error. "Setup cannot contain any protocol information." So I stripped the protocol (left "localhost") and it tells me it cannot find server on port 80. Is there a Personal Web Server for Win 2000 I have to/can install?

Put in your Win2K CD. Start->Settings->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs->Windows Components->IIS 5. Then when you create a new InterDev project, connect to localhost in master mode.
Follow the prompts and you are on your way. :)

One problem that it may be having connecting to your remote server is that the remote server must have Front Page Extensions installed in order to talk to InterDev.

If they aren't installed, then I'm sorry, because one of the best things about InterDev is it's seamless checking in/out of files. You have three states:

Not on master web
Checked out from master web (writeable)
Released to master web (not-writeable)

Moving between these three states is as easy as a right click.

good luck! :)
