Is there a protocol to use to setup remote office users instead of Pop and SMTP in order to have users access an internal Exchange 2000 server?

Or do I need a VPN or dial-up into the Server to have all of the same features.

I.e. Public Calendar sharing, Contacts etc.

We basically have all of our remote users VPN in and use Outlook for email. They will have all the features they would regularly have if they were on the local LAN. You should set Outlook up so that when they connect to VPN they can synchronize Outlook and disconnect. They can then read and respond to their messages and then reconnect to send them. This will save in long distance charges is the users are dialing in.
