Hi guys

I have an Option 61 with Meridian Mail 8 I think. The system has been relocated and I can’t find where the maintenance port is (For the Mail). I have a RS232 port, which I assumed was it but I get no response from any of the connectors! I also have a ALM/MDM is this maintenance as well as alarms? If it is maintenance then can anyone provide pin outs as the cable has been cut?

Thanks Mike

there are two cables connected on the left backplane of your mail, one is the aml the other is you only tty. the pin outs are standard rj21..

your 4 goes to remote 5
your 5 goes to remote 4
your 6 and 8 goes to remote 20
your 20 goes to remote 6 an 8
7 goes to remote 7
a standard rj 21 to dn 9 will work on a pc comm port. rj21 to rj 21 (non nulled) will work on a dumb term. 8 none and one at ? 1200 if it's default 9.6 is more common. what are you using for a term?

Thanks John

But I don’t have a standard serial port on the back of the mail except for the connection to the MSDL card. On the right (looking from the back) I have the RS232 called 5 – RS232 and the ALM/MDM port both of these are a 50 pin connector. I also have the serial port for the connection to the MSDL card. On the left I have another 50-pin connector called 4- RS232. I have a 50-pin plug (labelled 5-RS232) that has a cable with about 5 serial ports on it. I also have a 50-pin plug with a cable (labelled ALM/MDM) that has a cable that went back to the frame.

I was first guessing that the 5-RS232 was setup for connection to the terminal this connector appears to connect to the utilities card.

Hmmmmm Mike

It is one of the 5 serial cables from the Octopus connecter. It is the longest one and I think it is labled P6.
You may need a null modem between that connecter and your terminal.
Default baud is 2400 8/n/1 new from factory. if you are RLS 8 you are probably 2400 baud. most techs change baud to 9600 but I beleive that wasn't an option until Rls 11.
