What performance tools are available on AIX? 1

Hi,

I come from the Solaris world and new to AIX. In Solaris we use iostat, mpstat, vmstat and netstat to collect statistics. I know the same tools are available on AIX (with minor variations), but does AIX come with better tools to do the same things?

Windows has "Performance Monitor," which captures it statistics in a file and displays it in a viewer. Does AIX have a similar tool?

Look with Google for nmon. It is free of charge and writen by Technical Support, IBM

Not completely true... nmon is written by Nigel Griffiths, who is an IBMer in the UK, in the Technical Support - Advanced Technology group.

The nmon tool was developed to support benchmarks and performance tuning for internal use but by popular demand is given away to deserving friends.

Yes, nmon is free of charge, but it is not officially supported by IBM, you won't get help for it from IBM. That being said, it IS a great tool and I use it also

AIX has the Performance Toolbox for AIX ( PTX ), but you have to pay ( and it ain't cheap ).It displays all your parameters realtime, quite a nice tool if you wanna spend some money
