Is there a way to tell what percentage an object was scaled after it's been placed then scaled in ID? In Quark, you can see if an object in a picture box was scaled to 40% because it stays 40% in the tool bar at the top.

In ID, when I scale an object 40%, it goes back to 100% in the bar at the top. I need to place several other images at that same size (not the exact same one- but one with different colors), so I can't copy and paste)

Depending on your vesion of indd you can show the Control Panel (window menu) same as Pagemaker and similar to Quark. The percentage will show in the scale part of the control panel.

You can also show the transform window. Again, the scale % will show.

I'm running ID CS 3.0 on a pc.

I thought the way you described was the way it's supposed to work, but it's not.

I'm placing a logo. Then in the scaling window in the control panel (or the transform window) I scale the logo by 40%. As soon as I type in the number 40, hit enter, the logo scales by 40%, but the number jumps back to 100%.

Any ideas?

I use indd 3 (CS1). When I scale to, lets say, 40% the control panel and transform window registers, and stays at (even after closing the doc and reopening) 40%. I can even cut and paste and it stays at 40. I have no idea why yours would jump back to 100%.

Try Object menu/transform/scale/uniform and scale it there. Then see what the control panel and/or transform window registers.

When any Adobe app acts wierd, the usual first fix is to trash preferences and relaunch. You had some crashes earlier, so something could have been damaged. However, I use mac and do not know where indd prefs are stored, or what they're called, on a pc.

One thing - both the transform window and control panel have an option on teh flyout (little triangle) for 'reset scaling to 100%". Make sure yu don't use that.

Click on the box with the direct selection tool (white arrow), this should show the dimensions of the object inside the box.

Use the Scale Tool (count five downwards from the Direct Selection tool or count 5 upwards fom the Zoom Tool) on your toolbar.

Make sure uniform is checked to constrain proportions during the transformation.
