What PC memory types can be used in 2500 and other routers?

I bought some SDRAM on EBAY for my 2500s, it works fine, and I suspect it was PC memory not specifically CISCO approved memory. I also have numerous rams left over in PCs and probably PCs on the shelf I could take ram from....

Same question for other routers (4000, 4500, 4700, 2600 etc)

Also, can I put a 32M memory DIMM in a 2500 router, and have it only use 16 MB of the memory?
