Hi

AM just wondering what partition plans any of you use for SMS 2003 for ease of management.

This is my first installation, so I was thinking along the lines of (if its possible to split down to this level)

C partition for OS and application
D partition for all database/inventory/client capture
E partition for packages/software/updates
F partition for SQL logging
G partition for pagefile

Sound too complex or any advice to offer on how yours work?

Thanks

Hi,
This is our configuration

C OS, application and page file
F SQL Root and SMS Database only
J SMS SQL Transaction Log
K SMS Root and SMS Packages

I would say that your configuration looks good. You have split the SQL and SMS installations to two different partiotions and that's good practice.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Just a clarification, Partions on one array arent the way to go, you need separate arrays. Typically I recommend 1 mirror for the OS, A raid 5 or mirror for the logs and 1 raid 5 for the db.

There isnt much point in splitting one raid array into different drive letters, your gain in perf is only by completely separate arrays, and if you have multiple channels.

I guess it really depends on how many clients this server is going to host. Say under 3k, your not going to need a lot of HP.
