Hi All,

Just wondering. I will have my Certs Fully upto date shortly and wanted to know where should I go next???. I could keep just doing more certs, but I think maybee management is where my skills could be better used...

What im thinking is looking at doing a IT Managment Course (if such thing exists!!) Ive heard of Jobs aking for Prince/Prince2 or something similar

Im in the UK, so any tips/thoughts would be greatly appreciated.....

cheers

I think it really depends on age and experience. I have worked with IT Directors who had no real IT experience at all.

I feel that to move into IT Management you have to have a fundemental understanding of the the technologies in use by your company. It's no good being a manager if you don't understand the IT related problems that your staff approach you with. It's all well and good being a good man manager but you also have to be a good technician.

Get the experience and then try to move into team leader position then management.

Hi Simon,

Yes good points, just to add, ive been working in the roles of Systems Eng, DBA and Programmer over the past 10 years,

Having worked with some good managers and some quite awful managers i think i have a pretty good understanding for what staff are looking for from a manager.

I do spend some of my time already manging a small team of staff when my current manager is away... as you do!. But feel doing some formal training could really help me move forward towards not just a better pay cheque but a more rewarding job

thanks
