When installing PCI cards, sometimes one slot works when another doesn't. for instance, I know of someone who had to install a SCSI card in PCI slot 0 or it wouldn't work. Can anyone tell me what makes them different?

Thanks, Eelad

PCI have defined IRQs assigned to them. And some share addresses with other hardware. Ed Fair

Right, so in other words, you're forcing the PCI card to use a different IRQ by changing slots. There are other ways to change the IRQ, but changing slots is the easiest and sometimes quickest.
