What logs will show the source taking up my processing space?

Hi,
This may just be a quick answer I need. On our webserver, we are periodically having times where our server seems to be running out of the space (the apache error logs display: "Not enough space: couldn't spawn child process:" and the file is usually a web cgi script). I would like to know what is causing my space to be taken up in my server. I assume there is some kind of server log I can check but I do not know where to look.

My question is then: what logs can I look through to find what is causing my server to run out of space? I think it is being caused by some kind of automatic process running that I want to be able to stop or see if it is having a fatal error.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Jeremy

top is the command I was looking for. thanks!

I noticed there was a new release of apache that solved a similar problem to what I was seeing. I went ahead and updated the apache and will have to wait to see if the problem shows up again.
