Hi,

If you use a Pentium 4 for video and/or multimedia, I need to hear from you. I am considering getting a Dell P4 1.3 ghz for video editing (possibly Pinnacle DV500) and web design. How has the P4 worked for you?

I personally like the AMD THUNDERBIRD 1.2 GHZ better but be careful on what you buy. The AMD is more stable and actually runs faster than the P4. But it is very easy to damage and likes to run kinda warm.

Rion

P.S. this is MY personal prefrence.

Thanks a lot for the feedback, and I really appreciate your opinion, but I guess I kind of want to hear from those who have or have had a Pentium 4, in order to find out what they think.

I have a couple of P4 system at the office on our network. As of yet I have not seen a big difference at all in multimedia with the P4 compared to a PIII or even Athlon t-Bird running @ 1G. The additional instruction sets will not start to take any real advantage until software is written for it. So In my opinion go for what you can afford. If the Dell looks like a great deal go for it. Sorry this will not be of use to you 'dreamchaser' unless it may help you to consider the AMD alternatives.
I would appreciate a response from 'hackin02', or any other experienced folk...
I recently bought a DV500 Plus ...I've not installed it yet.
My current computer is an Elitegroup (ECS) K7VZA-0, with an AMD THUNDERBIRD 1.2 GHZ, GeForce2 MX400, 1x 40Gb 7200rpm + 1x 40Gb 5400rpm IBM HD's & 512Mb PQI RAM (2x 256Mb)
Can anyone comment on any compatability problems that I may have.
I will be building another computer very soon, as I wish to dedicate one to video editing, the other general use ...so I need to determine whether I should use an alternative setup for my DV500, or install it in my present computer.
Other ECS boards I am considering are: P6ISA-II and P4ITA.
Advise would be much appreciated.

Actually, it's ironic, since I went with AMD also. I got a 1.4 GHZ and it's great. And I also did not go with DV500, but instead got the Matrox RT2500, and I am also very happy with it.

i have recently bought k7vza and evey time i start my computer the screen just flashes at me. can you give me some suggestions why this is happening please tell me
