I have encountered a very nast virus. It attaches itself to emails and displays animal lovin pictures. It also blocks any attempt to update virus definition files. And most recently, it has wiped out my winsvrc.exe file. Since wiping out this file, windows cannot open ANY documents or files.

Does anyone have any information on what exactly the winsvrc.exe file is?
Where can I find a copy of this file to replace my wiped one?
Have you ever heard of a virus that behaves like this?

Thanks for your help.
If possilbe, shoot me an email here:

bye!

I think you have the W32.Navidad virus, or a derivitive of something similiar.

The virus calls a program called winsvrc.exe, but the brilliant virus programmer called it winsvrc.vxd elsewhere in his coding, so it doesnt work right, and neither does anything else on your pc. Never heard about the pictures bit, maybe you have more than one virus?

Sites like Symantec have programs, small batch jobs, that can remove these viruses' damage to your PC.
if it is navidad, check this out:

There is a file there you can get to cleanup the damage, and a description of what has happened.

be aware that this little beasty spreads thru networks faster than juicy gossip, so your PC is not likely the only victim.

good luck!
Ray

( I have no affiliation with Symantec, but I have used there stuff )
