When I click on a .exe file in a folder and select "Cut" or " Paste" in Window Explorer ( Win 98 SE) , an error message pops up saying " Runtime error 226 at 000060D4" ! If I restart the system, it is back to normal until sometimes later, the whole thing occurs again.... Please explain the 226 error and advise a solution... Thanks

Hello Zaidulon,

I got a similar message like yours and have been restarting my PC for a week now! Glad you brought up the problem.. Apparently, It must be a tough one to fix.. No expert shows up yet.. Thanks, Zaidulon

Thanks Smitee for the suggestion ! Fortunately, my error code is Runtime 226 not 216 , which is a trojan virus!!

Further suggestions are most welcomed ! I wish masters RegHakr and Tsuji could voice their opinions...

I am grateful to know you do not have a virus. While you wait for the "guru's", I feel that way about them also, here is something that may help.

Windows 98 Known Issues:
Run Time Errors during the installation on Windows 98 operating system may be caused by a version of Win 98 that does not have all of the, or did not come with the, latest Visual Basic Runtime files to run Visual Basic programs. Click on the button below and download and install Runtime 5.0 files to your computer. Reboot, Install FS.

File Name: vb500a.zip
File size: 1.28MB
File Type: .zip

Click Here To Download Visual Basic Runtime files!

Also these mesage threads seem to confirm above.

Hello Smitee,

Thank you very much for your expert opinion which apparently solved the problem ! I went to "WebAttack" Site, got to the missing files section, D/L VB6, VB5 runtime libraries and installed them both ! So far, it solved the problem.. I'll monitor to see if there could be any more recurrences...
But I still did not get it : if a DLL is missing, the problem will surface right away ; In my case , it works for a while then Boom... you can't "cut". "paste" and lost "right- click context menu " functionalities ! It was as if something initiated a time-dependent elimination of VB DLLs in my system !!

My hat to you Smitee.. Thanks
