What is the (--x) switch?

I'm trying to install a 6.3 system on an o2 and am using the helpful guidance of this group.
I can run fxARCS without '--x' but then fxARCS seems to be running in 'safe mode' only and after installing 'installation tools' it does a restart. Fine so far?
It then complains that it cannot find a valid file system. Opening the shell, and trying a "mkfs /dev/dsk/dks0d2s0' it returns a failed comment. Does the '--x' have something to do with this?
Running, 'boot -f dksc(0,4,8)sashARCS dksc(0,4,7)stand/fx.ARCS--x' results in: Autoboot failed, Unable to continue; press <enter> to return to menu.
Any comments on getting a system installed would be welcome - I'm a designer running macs and am trying to get into unix/irix.

Machine is o2 r10000, cd on 4, hd on 2.

cheers folks! btw - I've been through as many faqs and posts on this board as I can and still can't get a base system installed - apologies in advance for my excessive dimness:)

Hi

What is the SystemPartition and OSLoadPartition devices?
you can find out using "printenv" from prom monitor.

and also type hinv to find out how many disks available.

Determine which disk you wanted to load OS and set the OSLoadPartition and SystemPartition accordingly.

Example: For disk 1 on controller 0

setenv SystemPartition dksc(0,1,8)
setenv OSLoadPartition dksc(0,1,0)

You missed a space between fx.ARCS and --x
