We are going to centralized SIP trunks. Some people are saying I should have a local line for emergencies. I guess it would take a LSP too. It just seems like such an expensive solution to put in a MG with LSP to terminate one POTS line for emergencies when the network is down. I am interested in hearing how y'all deal with it....

Right now we keep a media gateway LSP at the edge sites and leave the local T-1 lines connected as in many cases the current T-1 cost for the DID's and local/TF calls as well as 9-1-1 is less expensive than the current centralized SIP costs.

you dont have to have lsp you could set up sls on the gateways that i guess are already there.Another option is to install B5800 branch gateways with local access , somewhat cheaper than a h248 gateway.

APSS (SME)
ACSS (SME)
ACIS (UC)

If your remote site don't already have the T-1/local and an LSP. Then you are not reducing there functionality. With the prevalence of cell phone, do you really need to have 911 access on the phone system, in case of a network failure? You could provide a POTS line with a normal analog phone attached just for 911, depending on size of the office. But I also agree with Ratman, but that assumes you already have that in place.

But a lot depends on size.
