Our Nortel sales team is coming in next week to talk about the 4500 line to replace our 460/ 470 closet stacks. Anyone have early opinions yet?

Mixed feelings.
One end ok since they also support 100M on fiber.
But they will also switch people from the 5530 towards the 4500 series.
I am not afraid for problems, ofcourse with first revisions it sometimes can be tricky. See to cisco 3750's, the problems they had/have with power supplies.

I read you remarks in other posting. Most of the problems you have with config loss is due to the autosave feature. I guess most of your problems came after a power down. Predicted or not. So turn off the autosave feature.

Be careful, as apparently, the 4500 "Ethernet routing switch series" don't really route yet at all. They are for now replacements for the 450/Baystack family..potentially replacing the 460/470...and I agree with last post about 100BFX option being nice, however, I don't see any compelling reason to buy these. These are certainly not, even in future releases, replacing and certainly not superceding the 5530.
55x0 operating system supports dynamic routing, and advanced features like SMLT, IPFIX, etc and is and still will be the enterprise routing choice. The 5530 also support 10gig and the 4500 series do not.
Backplane/stacking performance improvements and a convenient USB port is the only big difference between this and a 470 from what I can see.
