What is the meaning on "number of prefetch buffers" in SMC??

Hi,
I'm doing right now some performance testing on 2 of ours test servers. We have currently Silverstream server 3.7.2 (+ lookup batch).
Im trying to check the timing of an upload of some file(~32MB). however, in SMC, I've come across the words"number of prefetch buffers".
Does anyone know what that means?.(please be specific, 'coz we got french environment here, and it'd hard for me to explain it to the others) :->
