What is the maximum size for single file in unix,
assuming there is unlimited disk space?

Thank you,

I know that in Solaris, you must mount the file system with special parameters if you intend to exceed 2 gig per file in ufs

vxfs, the veritas file system also has provisions for morre than 2 gig per file I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Robert:

The largest file tends to be unix variant dependent. If I recall, in my old SCO days it used to be a kernel parameter.

Also, do a man on the ulimit command. If you're not aware of it, you might find it helpful.

Regards,

Ed
