When I am doing a new install, it keeps asking for datasource and I gave msde during installation but CMS is not enabled when installation is complete. It had earlier Crystal Enterprise 8 and has some DSn's. Is that causing problem?

So you state a datasource, it never errors, yet the database isn't working?

Keep in mind that this isn't a new install, it sounds like you're attempting an upgrade, which can be dicey. I may be mistaken as you say it had an earlier CE 8, which might mean that you had another install that you're replacing with another install of CE 8, or you are installing a newer version.

I would suspect that some previous version of CE is running, and so you are unable to install the new CE database on to it.

I would consider removing the previous version, adn if you intend to preserve instances, read up on doing so for whatever version of CE you now are installing (and please post basic information like that).

Sorry for not mentioning CE10. I was so involved I did not realise. I am now installing CE10 on a network server. It had CE8. I uninstalled CE8, rebooted the server and installed CE10. When I did on an independant machine installation went smooth. I selected MSDE as the option, so shouldn't it create a database on it's own and not prompt for it?

A version of SQL Server (MSDE) is probably already running on the machine and since CE detected it, it assumes that you wish to use it.

Not sure what you're asking by "I selected MSDE as the option, so shouldn't it create a database on it's own and not prompt for it?"

Did it not work this time, or???

It did not work. It completed installation but CMS is not enabled.
