This will probably be a very long answer. I have read through several forums and am wondering what do all the course numbers mean when becomming certified. People recomend certain numbers for individuals or tell people to start out at 70-219. Don't you have to take all the classes to be certified. I am asking because I plan on tkeing classes after I finish my A+, but don't know where to go from there. My company will pay for classes up to a point and we are networked, we use NT 4, lotus notes and are up to date for the most part. What would be the next set of classes or certificates to go for that would increase my worth?

Well, since NT is about to be retired (or are they holding off on that), I'd recommend your 2000 MCSA (or MCSE if you're serious about it). You don't need to take any classes. I've studied for all my certifications with nothing but books a few a computers to play around with. I'm not to sure what's with the test numbers however. Darrell Mozingo

We were going to XP, but for now they are sticking with NT, because of the cost of upgrades.

Usualy people recommend that you start with the lowest numbered exam for a certain cert because the rest tend to build off that one.

For the 2000 MCSE It is a good idea to start with the 70-210 (W2K Pro) or 70-215 (Server).

The rest of the exams, 70-216, 70-217, and so on all build on those two.

Sure, you can take the exams in any order, but if you were to start with say 70-219 or 70-221 you would find them a lot harder than if you worked your way up to them. CJ
