Hello

Now that the ibm blade p6 support virtualisation etc... Why would you buy a small p6-520 ? I'm still not sure the difference between the blade p6 and small p6-520 (the price is different - blade cheapper)

Let me know what would you choose for dev / test env and also some production servers (not critical)

Cheers
Al

It depends on whether you already have a bladecenter or not...

HTH,

p5wizard

As p5wizard said ,P6 Blade needs supported version of Blade Chasis/BladeCenter , which should have Management Module, Network Switch , as well as Fiber Switch , In case it's using shared Storage. being said that one cannot not have just blade p6 with out all it's other component. each peice would include additional cost.

Hi
Thanks the question was more about the difference between using pseries and its dynamic allocation etc... and using a blade ?
would you choose a blade p6 or a small p6-520 and why?

Thanks
Al

Difference P6 Blade & P6-520

It depends on what you are trying to accomplished

1.P6 Blade is Managed by IVM , wheras P6 -520 can be managed by HMC.

2.System Resources such CPU, & Memory in p6 blade are limited, whereas in P6 520 you can have higher capacity of resources.

3.Maximum of 2 internal hard disk can be fit in P6, (unless use another slot of blade center) whereas in p6 520 you can have adtional drawer ,Native disk can be 10 times higher than blade.

4. If using SHARED STORAGE SAN, fiber cards are need fiber adapter in blade in addtion Blade Center Switch. where as in p6 -520 fiber card is directly attach to CEC/Drawer.

5. Capacity on Demand feature is there in P6-520.

these are few which I recollect top of head, need to search more on IBM website to get more info.

Hi Alexia,

Why don't you call an IBM Salesperson! He/she would definitely optimize the product to your need!
