What is the criteria for selecting a radio, B or A?

We have Dell laptops that seem to select the B radios over the A even when we have the registry settings to prefer the A over the B. What is the criteria for associating to a particular radio, is it signal strength? Has anyone ever had this particular issue, and if so, how did you over-come this? We are trying to run voice over the B and data over the A, but we have some clients that do not support the A radios.

Thanks...

I need to clarify one thing... Most of the Laptops have A radios, but we have a few that do not support the A. For this reason we are enabling the B radios on the data side to enable those machines to access the network. The problem that we are encountering is that the machines that do support the A radio seem to prefer the B instead. We want to limit the number of clients that associate to the B, but it's hard to enforce that.

Thanks again!

You might want to configure two SSID's for your network, one for A radio and one for B radio, and point the clients to which SSID you want them to connect to. That will force the client to connect to the desired network.

Thanks for the response... Some of the machines do not support the A radios, so I have to take that into account. I've tried defining three ssids... one for the wireless handsets, one for just B support, and one for just the A clients. The problem that we are seeing is that the majority of the clients prefer to associate with the B instead of the A. That's our dilema.
