Crystal Reports 9 with Peachtree 2007 - Pervasive SQL

What is the CHR( ) function?
Is it pronounced "Character"?
How do you decide if you need to put 13 or 9 or 31 in the parenthesis (i.e., Chr(13))?

I've seen it used in making ro labels of cross-tabs.
