I have recently upgraded from BE 8.6 to 9.0 and upgraded our AIT3 library from a single drive to a dual drive unit with 30 tape slots. What is the best way to use the two drives? Should I schedule separate backups to each drive or is there a way to have one job use both drives at the same time? We added the second drive to shorten our backup time. Any opinion would be greatly appreciated.

Because Backup exec does not support multiplexing (writing to multiple tape drives simultaneously) It is best to setup seperate backups and run them on each drive just like you suggested.

I have a group called tape drives only. In Devices. I select that when making the job definitions so that the job decides which tape drive to use. Instead of making jobs based on the tape drive you just have it pick one that isn't being used at the time.
