I'm getting ready to replace a single 4.11 server. This server started out as v3.11, upgraded to 4.1 then to 4.11. Can I install 4.11 on the new server from the upgrade CD or do I need to install 3.11 first? Actually, that's not an option as 3.11 is on 5 1/4" floppies. What are my options?

You can install on the new system straight from your 4.11
The only difference with NetWare upgrades vs. the "Full" versions, are that during the upgrade, you have to enter your activation key. (I think they used activations keys for 4.11, but don't quote me on that) Either way, it is a stratight forward install with no quarky bits.

I would install novell fresh on new server.
Install patch's to new server.
I would not install license unless you have seperate licence. Novell will allow you to have two connections at one time.

I would install NDS and add to your current tree.

Copy data over to new server.
You don't need Novell directories
change login script to reflect new file locations.
make new server primary timer server and old one secondary.
remove License form old
install license to new server.
remove old server from network
use ndsmgr to remove server from tree.
