I am an unfortunate user of 56k dial up access to the Internet. I would love to get broadband Internet such as DSL or cable, but I can’t get these services in my area. So I am stuck with Satellite Internet. The question is that I am trying to get answered is, how would I connect computers that are in two different house’s that are about 1000ft away? My neighbors also would like to get Satellite Internet and so we had a thought to get one dish and all that and share the Internet between all the computers we have in both households. Also while sharing Satellite Internet, we all could communicate between each computer and etc. But the problem is, I have no clue what kind of cable I should get. I would like to use cat5 cable or something of some sort that I am familiar with. I know how to hook up hubs and run cat5 cable, but I have never done anything like this. I would like to run cable between both households, but I can’t bury it. So what other options do I have??

1000' if too far for 10BaseT over cat5.

Can you see the other house from yours? If so 802.11b wireless with some decent antennas is the cheapest way to go. Otherwise fiber.
