<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Which is the best package application to use for a project?&nbsp;&nbsp;Regular package and deployment with VB6, Wise, or Installsheild?<br><br><br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;John Stephens

We are very, very pleased with the Wise product.&nbsp;&nbsp;Deployments of our multi-tier applications used to be awful.&nbsp;&nbsp; Now they are routine, even to the point of sending our for self installation by inexperienced users. <p>John Kisner<br><a href=mailto:jlkisner@jlkisner.com>jlkisner@jlkisner.com</a><br><a href= > </a><br>

<br>John,<br><br>Which Wise product do you use?&nbsp;&nbsp;I visited Wise.Com and they seem to have a bunch of &quot;Install&quot; products!<br><br>I would be interested in a package that would help install &quot;client/Server&quot; apps (i.e. server installation and client installation).<br><br>Thanks in advance!<br>

JohnStep -<br><br>We use the Wise product too, and like it a lot.&nbsp;&nbsp; We're currently on InstallBuilder (which is version 7.0).&nbsp;&nbsp;I think there's a new release out that works with Win2000, but I don't have it yet.<br><br>VB400-<br><br>I've used InstallBuilder to write setups for both client and server sides.&nbsp;&nbsp; But the server sides I wrote use very few Microsoft-specific technologies (no MTS components or anything), so I may never have used features you would want.&nbsp;&nbsp; The server-side setup.exe is about 113mb, and obviously gets sent out on CDROM, not floppies!<br><br>You used to be able to download an eval copy from their site: <A HREF=" TARGET="_new"> (they were known as Great Lakes Business Systems once upon a time).<br><br>Chip H.<br>

VB400,&nbsp;&nbsp;We use Wise Install Master 7.&nbsp;&nbsp;Ver 8 is out, but we are happy with 7.&nbsp;&nbsp;I'd be happy to refer any questions to someone here who knows the detail of how we work with this product. <p>John Kisner<br><a href=mailto:jlkisner@jlkisner.com>jlkisner@jlkisner.com</a><br><a href= > </a><br>

Thanks for the infomation. I'll will be really checking into wise now.<br><br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;John Stephens

Yeah, the other people at work call me a Wise Guy, and I guess that's because they like the installs I create.<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;;-)<br><br>Chip H.<br>

Add my vote for Wise as well. <p>nick bulka<br><a href=mailto:nick@bulka.com>nick@bulka.com</a><br><a href= > </a><br>

I'm going to look into getting a Wise Installed forum here. Who else would be interested in trading information and scripts?

Hey everyone! We now have a Wise forum!!!

Thanks to David Murphy, CEO They never have to knock if your door is always open.

How can I get wise intaller? Is there version difference for installing VB6-Access 2000 Project?

Look on their website. There's a trial version. Or you could use package and deployment wizzard that COMES with VB.

I only used Wise because I needed to do reg. stuff, and ini stuff, and information screens.

I use the FREE 32-bit Inno Setup installer for 32-bit Windows applications.

Key features:

· Support for all 32-bit Windows versions in use today -- Windows 95, 98, 2000, ME, NT 4.0. Support for Windows NT 3.51 can also be optionally included.
· Supports creation of a single EXE to install your program for easy online distribution. Disk spanning is also supported.
· Standard wizard interface.
· Complete uninstall capabilities:
· It creates an entry in the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel applet, and optionally an uninstall icon on the Start Menu. The installer has the ability to undo all changes it's made if the user clicks Cancel during installation.
· Copying of files:
Includes integrated &quot;deflate&quot; file compression. The installer has the ability to compare file version info, replace in-use files, use shared file counting, and register DLL/OCX's and type libraries.
· Creation of shortcuts, and Start Menu/Program Manager groups and icons.
· Creation of .INI entries.
· Creation of registry entries.

It is completely free, even for commercial use.

--------------------------

In addition, I use the FREE ScriptMaker companion program that automatically generates the script file used by Inno Setup installer.

ScriptMaker makes it easy for you to create Inno Setup installer scripts. ScriptMaker is extremely easy to use. You can save completed scripts which can later be reloaded and amended if necessary. ScriptMaker integrates fully into Inno Setup and, like Inno Setup, has many users around the world and is completely free.

Thanks for the info -- I haven't seen the Inno product yet.

I have to butt in. I haven't tried Wise but Install Shield didn't own up to it's reputation. I was in a situation where I had to compile the app, modify the (physical) EXE with another app and then add it back into the distribution. Install Shield couldn't understand what I was trying to do (modify the binary before it is distributed).

I ended up relying on the VB P&D Wizard.

How does Wise handle this sort of thing?
