Howdy:
You are going to get a multitude of answers here as everyone has their personal favorite.. Mine is Norton.. Tried AVG, McAffee as well as Norton and prefer Norton although others will beg to differ I am sure..

Best AV ever would be the power cord. Leave it unplugged and never have to worry about viruses again. All kidding aside here is a decent article about the latest round of AV reviews in PC mag I wouldn't just take their advice though. On the page that I linked are links to the three main AV testing centers. You can get a good idea of which products are the top performers by visiting those sites.
My personal preference is Kaspersky AV which wasn't reviewed (I thought this was a crime because it is one of the best) but does test very well.
