I don't have old release notes from previous patches. So the latest SU only added one thing for BCM to IPO Migration
They do not break out which SU added the update so I cannot tell you exactly when these patches were added.
You can look in the software history on your current patch for the release notes to see if these component updates are present in your current patch or if what you have is older.
Here are the notes for patches that mention /var/log partition getting full.
- BCM 4.0 - eventID=11202 Physical memory near or on its capacity
CPULoad.log was bloating beyond 600MB which is causing varlog
partition to fill up.This update introduces log rotate option for
CPULoad.log to control its size and create zip files when size exceeds 1MB.

- Memory leak due to a bad UPS-USB cable
BCM4.0 UHCI driver doesn't handle the USB transmit timeout errors
effectively and this leads to memory leak. After installation of USB-UPS
cable, if BCM MON shows the system running out of physical memory
the UPS-USB cable may be defective thus creating the memory leak condition.
The BCM 4.0 /var/log/messages file displays constant 'Out of Memory'
messages in this scenario and eventually BCM memory is maxed out, requiring a reboot.
This update resolves the issue.
Q01984651
- NTP daemon's log file "filegen" is not currently managed by log rotate and
the file could grow indefinitely. When managed by logrotate, a size limit
is enforced.
Q01449728-02
- Unable to apply updates due to Disk space exhaustion.
The /var/log partition gets filled up completely due to kernel crashes and
other large files. This partition will be cleaned up as necessary.
This fix addresses the issue.
Q01722625
- The One Button Text "feature inactive"
SCD failed to start the One Button Text process because of some missing
startup scripts.
Q01794340
- Unable to apply updates due to Disk space exhaustion.
Binary files in /var/log are removed now when free disk space becomes low.
Q01803712
- /var/log is at 100% capacity
BCM_DataInterfacesProviderAgent.log file is not rotated properly, as a
result it can grow until it takes up all free space on the /var/log partition.
This update fixes the issue.
