what is symantec common driver symevent 1

What exactly is the "symantec common driver: symevent?
This weeks Norton live updates has this as one of the updates along with the virus definitions. I don't like to download anything that I'm not sure what it's function is.
Please tell me what it is and what is it's function?

Symevent is a driver that is used by Norton. Without symevent, the product will not be able to function. I recommend you get the update.
