what is safe temp of AMD Athlon 64 FX55 core?

I enabled "Q-Fan Controller" in my ASUS AN8 SLI Premium mainboard's BIOS and even tho the computer is like WAY more quiet now, I noticed my CPU to idle at around 44C as compared to 36-38C before, probably because the system is regulating the fan speed. Is 44C safe? It went to 46C at 70% of load. It has a nice aluminum and copper pipe heatsink. I do have an Artic Cooling heatsink with a massive open fan for max air flow. Would using this help or should I stick to the AMD one which has performed very well so far? If 44C is okay then cool. Any help/info would be appreciated! Still new to AMD.

While cooler is always considered better, 44C is very admirable for this chip.

Recollection, without checking, is 65C is the top limit.

Shoud you change out the HS, this would be your choosing as the current setup is cooling fine.

Just to give you peace of mind and a second opinion I also agree your temperatures are absolutely fine.

Infact with a rise of only 2 degrees C @ 70% load shows your cooling is nothing short of excellent!

I would also agree you have no reason for concerns until temps hit the low to mid 60's but obviously a recommended absolute max would be below 60C.

And just to give you a healthy comparison, my X2 4200 is running at very similar temps to yours but I have a massive 1.1Kg all copper Hyper6 tower fitted on mine.

I'm pretty sure the maximum temp. for these processors is somewhere near 90 degrees.

Not that you would ever want to get close to that but 65 and under should cause you no problems.

You may be right!

However, I am sure this is the upper limit at which AMD chips will normally still operate.

No Way!!

Rather than displaying what are effectively "Burn Out" temperatures AMD have now chosen just to publish maximum's which I take to mean max operating temps.

thank u so much for everyone's replies!! I feel much better now. And with my system up 24/7 the CPU remains at 44C at idle (just checked it with this awesome program called Speedfan).
