According to Pervasive's website ( it is an embeddable, low cost of ownership, low administration database engine.
What does that mean? To me, that means Pervasive is the database I use in my applications for storing data. It's very fast with a small memory footprint. I've never had any problems with it in terms of corrupt files or installation.
