Paradox is a relational database. It supports ODBC and SQL and meets many (much more than excel) of the required points to achieve a true relational model. Paradox supports it's own object language (objectPal), which is reasonably easy to learn if you have object-based programming experience. It has built in report and form design capabilities, and supports its own visual query by example method to extract data. It's been around since the early 80's in one form or another.

I suggest you buy one of Mike Prestwood's books or go to his site ( if you want a tutorial. He is the most popular author of Paradox documentation.

JLockley,

While I'm sure we could debate extensively about the things we each like and dislike about various database packages, it seems more productive to focus on the technical capabilities of each package and then let the end user decide which to try for their needs.

Remember, opinions are like belly-buttons. Everybody's got one and they're all different.

Lance is right (but it was still funny).
