I recently had to download and replace MDAC in a Win NT server after experiencing problems during the installation of Veritas Backup Exec, also I was warned that I may experience an ODBC error when trying to roll out a server based install of Office 2000.

So what exactly is ODBC and MDAC and would I be wise to Learn more about it.

Should I update them from time to time?

As always, thanks in advance

MDAC refers to Microsoft Data Access Components and ODBC refers to Open Database Connectivity. ODBC, an API for database access, is one of the Data Access Components.

Check out Microsoft's Universal Data Access Web Site where you can read all about data access technologies like ODBC, ADO, and OLEDB and see where they fit in the MDAC scheme.
