Just a quick question on what is regarded as acceptable temperature for my cpu and system. I have AMD XP 1600+, 256 DDR SDRAM w/heat spreader, ATA100 HD, on a msi board w/via kt266a chipset.

I currently have 1 fan in front that blows in and two fans on back that blow out. I am not overclocking and my cpu and system are typically between 90-100 F.

You want to try keeping the system temp below 60ºC and the CPU temp below 55ºC. Optimal would be below 55ºC for system and 50ºC for CPU.

Hey I just bought a similiar system and you have no worries my XP 1800+ is running at the same temperature range so I am sure you are fine. You might be able to shave a few more degrees if you haven't already used Arctic Silver, but I think you are alright. I would just watch out when you are doing some heavy processes, ie., graphics, video, etc.

Specs:

AMD AthalonXP 1900+
ThermalRight AX-7 w/ 80CFM Delta
Soltek SL-75DRV5
2x Corsair PC-2700 512mb DDR333
Leadtek GeForce4 ti4600
SB Audigy Platinum w/ Internal Audigy Drive
Linksys 10/100 NIC
SB ModemBlaster v.92 56k Modem
Western Digital Caviar 100gb 7200 RPM HDD
Toshiba 16x40x DVD
Plextor Plextwriter 40x12x40x CD-RW
Antec SX-1040B w/ 400W P/S

I think cdogg may be a little mixed up with his numbers. It is impossible to get the CPU temp cooler than the system temperature with an air cooled CPU (the processor cannot be cooler than the air being blown onto it) unless it's turned off of course, I think his figures are reversed?
I have built quite a few XP systems now, 1600's 1700's and 2000's on differant mainboards, with extra case fans and recommended heatsinks (nothing too special) 1600+'s tend to idle around 40C and max at about 50C, it is the max that is important and XP's do tend to go flakey if they are allowed to creep into the 60's C.
It does sound like you have your cooling well sorted with no problems but I would recommend a half hour loop in something like mad onions 3D benchmark 2001 to check the all important MAX!
Because we are talking about conventional AIR cooling the AMBIENT air temperature (room air temp) will determine just how cool you can get your PC's to run, if you happen to live in a warm climate then the so called cool air entering your PC may already be 30 degrees C which will greatly reduce the heatsink/fans abillity to reduce the processors temperature (this is why busineses using large networked computers often keep them in a temperature controlled room) Martin Just trying to help, sometimes falling short, I am only human after all.

OOPS! Thanks paparazi for clearing that up!! Had it reversed... X-)
