NNTP (Network News Transfer Protocol) is the predominant protocol used by computers (servers and clients) for managing the notes posted on Usenet newsgroups. NNTP replaced the original Usenet protocol, UNIX-to-UNIX Copy Protocol (UUCP) some time ago. NNTP servers manage the network of collected Usenet newsgroups and include the server at your Internet access provider. The NNTP client may is included as part of your Netscape, Internet Explorer, Opera, or other Web browser or you may use a separate client program called a newsreader.
Is it logging as an error or just information?
It sounds like the machine is configured to communicate with another machine to recieve News Group articles. The machine is not getting any articles but is still going through the motions as if it did. If you are setting up a news server you may need to take a look at the configurations as to where the machine is communicating to and also verify that the machine that it is communicating with is set up correctly. If the machine that it is communicating to is an ISP you may need to contact them to verify settings on both ends.
