Hi all,
I have read some document talking about mail server system, and I met the word MTA but I don't know what does it stand for ? And could you tell a little more about this function ?
Thanks in advace for any help.
John Thom

MTA usually stands for Message Transfer Agent. It's function may be different in different mail systems and may be referred to by other names in different mail systems. Generally, the MTA is responsible for moving messages within the system, like from one post office to another or to various gateways like an Internet Gateway.

MTA's are the actual SMTP servers.. such as sendmail in UNIX, MS-Exchange in Windows NT.. and more..

good luck
